A goal is defined as an aim or desired result; the object of a person’s ambition or effort What are your goals? How do you reach your goals? How do your make your goals a priority over all your responsibilities as a working woman?
Goals. We all have them. Some are small, some are big, some are attainable, and some are unrealistic. We have discussed how creating a vision board can be a great way to visualize your goals. Let’s say you made a vision board or list of your goals, came up with an action plan, set time on your calendar to work on them, but you haven’t made any progress. Before you put your goals on the shelf and turn them into daydreams; I want to encourage you to become a goal digger.
A goal digger is someone who persistently looks for ways to reach their goals. A goal digger realizes how important it is to fight for what they want in life and will not stop no matter how hard the road to their goal is ahead. I know what you are thinking that sounds great, but you get discouraged. We all do. Setbacks are a part of life and unavoidable. You don’t always have time to work on your goals. There is no perfect timing or condition, so you might as well start now. Anymore excuses we need to debunk or tackle?
Your life is what you make it. If you want to lose weight, you can lose weight. If you want to start a business, you can start a business. If you want to go back to school, you can go back to school. Will it be hard? Yes. Will you want to give up? Yes. Will it be worth it? Most definitely. Jim Rohn says, “If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.”
So how do you change your mindset and become a goal digger? How do you stop dreaming and start achieving? There are 3 things you need to do:
- Stop Making Excuses. We come up with so many excuses for why we can’t or haven’t achieved our goals. We blame it on lack of time, fear, family responsibilities, age, not enough money, and not having the experience. Excuses do not get results. In order to change your life or to reach that goal, you must banish the excuses that keep you from starting. What you think about yourself becomes reality. There is power in your words. Your words can either inspire you or discourage you.
- Start Putting in the Work. A couple of weeks ago, Unaverage Woman had a blog post about Taking Action and how to create an action plan. “If a goal is worth having, it’s worth blocking out the time in your day-to-day life necessary to achieve it.”– Jill Koenig Your dream will not work unless you do. You must move forward and if they plan doesn’t work, change it. Do whatever you have to do to reach your goal.
- Never give up! So many people give up on achieving their goals and settle into just being average. I don’t want that for my life or yours. There is no time limit on realizing your goal. If you fall, get back up. It’s okay to make mistakes. Keep moving and don’t quit. You were meant to succeed. You were meant to be an Unaverage Woman.
“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.”
Henry David Thoreau
I challenge you today, to change your mindset and become a goal digger. Brush your goals off and start making them a reality. There is nothing holding you back but you. Stop making excuse and put in the work. Then never give up! One of my favorite quotes by George Elliot says, “It is never too late to be what you might have been.”
