How do you create the life you want? What dreams do you have for your life? Are you where you want to be in life? Do you have more goals you want to accomplish?
Vision is defined as the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom. When you close your eyes and imagine yourself in 5 years, what are you doing, where are you, and who is there with you?
The first step to becoming an Unaverage Woman is to Declutter Your Space – remove everything that is in the way of you realizing the life you want. That means physical, mental, emotional, and relational clutter. Marie Kondo says, “The best way to find out what we really need is to get rid of what we don’t.”
The second step to becoming an Unaverage Woman is to Create a Vision. Maybe you need to figure out your goals – you have never imagined a better life for yourself than the one you have now. Maybe life and your current responsibilities have made you lose sight of the dreams and goals you made a long time ago. Maybe you just need to refine your goals, so you can start going hard after them and stop procrastinating. No matter your current state of mind or situation, you need to create your vision.
A vision motivates you to reach your goals and make the changes and choices necessary to be who you were meant to be. A vision gives you purpose and a guide to move forward. It’s time to get unstuck from the rat race of being average and create the life you want. Think about your life and complete this sentence: I am a woman on a mission to…What did you say? Don’t be afraid to dream big and say what you want to accomplish in all the areas of your life.
Now I hope you are thinking about your vision. How do you organize all these thoughts you want to do or accomplish? Do you write them down in a notebook or put sticky notes on your mirror? That may be a start, but one of the best ways is to create a vision board. It will not only serve as a visual motivator but is a great way to organize your thoughts of what you want the New You to look like in the future. The image below is the vision board I created for my self last year. It has helped me start on a journey of realizing my goals and purpose. I have it up in my room, so I can see it every day.
How does one create a vision board? There are a lot of different ways, but I think the following steps are the easiest and most efficient way:
1) Create a list of goals for all the areas of your life – Physical, Mental and Emotional (Self-care), Spiritual, Relationships, Career, Gifts/Talents, Finances, etc. I suggest you make this list on a piece of paper and put at least 2 items under each area of your life. Take some time and think; don’t just write something because it sounds easy to accomplish or because someone else thinks you should write it. This list is about you and what you want for your future. It is personal. I also like to include steps on how I plan to accomplish the goal. This helps show that the goal is attainable.
2) Purchase and/or gather supplies. The supplies do not need to be expensive or elaborate. The basics include a poster board or tri-fold board, some magazines (you may have already some old ones in your home), markers, and glue sticks. Optional items include glitter, stencils, cardstock, construction paper, and whatever other items you want to use.
3) Find picture and words that characterize your goals. The pictures should be things that inspire you. They don’t have to be the exact picture of your goal. If it speaks to you and makes you feel good about your goal, include it. The words should be strong, positive affirmations that encourage you to reach and achieve your dreams. If all the words you want to include are not in the magazines you have, you can write them on your board in bold letters.
4) Make a sketch of how and where you want the various goals to go on the board. This step is important because it is symbolic of placing the pieces of your life in the order you want. You don’t want to just throw the goals on the board in an unorganized way. This board represents the vision you are creating for your life.
5) Attach your goals, images, and affirmations to the board. Now it is time to place everything on the board in the order and place you have decided. Add extra words, images, and doodles as you see fit.
6) Hang the board in a location you will see daily. You just created your vision and you need to see it every day! This wasn’t just a fun activity; it is the start of bringing those goals to life.
Life is busy and it is easy to get caught up in the to-dos, the rat race of being average. It’s time to create your vision and become Unaverage! Helen Keller said, “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight and no vision.” What do you want for your life? If you really want it, go get it! Start today! Create a Vision for your life!
